An amazing "Journey"

At the beginning of 2013 I was contacted by a former colleague and friend, who asked if I would be interested in working on a project for Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Schools.  Of course the project sounded wonderful, I agreed to work as a consultant for the project and couldn't wait to get to work.

The N-Lighten Your Journey project is a partnership between the University of Nebraska Lincoln and the Paul Mitchell Schools.  The curriculum is a series of 5 units that are based on learning about social emotion skills, cognitive behavior and self improvement.  The project came about after 668 staff members from Paul Mitchell Schools across the US completed a comprehensive survey designed to identify the challenges facing their students and staff.  Preliminary results showed that cyber-bullying and mental health challenges were among the significant struggles facing the students in Paul Mitchell Schools.

With my teaching background and expertise in learning pedagogies, I was asked to write the lesson plans for the curriculum.  I grew professionally and personally through my work in this project, and worked along side an incredible team from UNL.  We we able to publish and present our work in July to an elite group of Paul Mitchell School owners.
