SFL 2013

Another terrific Ski for Light!! This was a little celebration year as this was my 10th year volunteering as a guide.  I have been involved for 14 years total, however, my first 4 years I was only able to assist with the ski swap.  Every year we have a tradition of signing "Vern's Tent," which is an emotional, yet exciting, reminder of all the years of fun and friendships.

I was paired with a 'rookie' this year, Jill.  She is from Sacramento, CA, and has the most beautiful black lab guide dog, Easter. We had a wonderful time! We spent most of the week snowshoeing, and managed a 1k cross country ski loop.  Snowshoeing through the Black Hills gives folks a chance to get to know one another - and I think we did just that.  She shared her story of losing her sight, we laughed over our kiddos, and have already planned to ski together at next year's event. Oh, and did I mention that we placed 1st...yes, 1st, in the snowshoe race!!  We rock, what can I say.

I was also able to spend much needed time with my amazing friends.  We enjoy being goofy at SFL, and I always laugh way to much! I just wish I was able to see them more than once a year.  However, we manage to stay in touch with silly text messages and a few phone calls.

This is how I started every morning!
All is good in the meadow.

 The morning crew!  Cheers!

Race Day - Jill and I getting ready for the snowshoe race

 1st Place - woohoo!

I was honored to have my parents join me at the banquet
Thank you both for sharing the evening with me! It means more than you know.

Of course I missed these 2 like crazy while I was away
(along with my amazingly supportive husband).
I managed to bring home some goodies!
I think they are future SFL guides.  ;-)
