This image definitely represents an emotional moment for me! When the girls and I were back in Rapid City in early March, we went to the Dahl Arts Center for Arts & Crafts. When we walked in the door, my heart jumped as I saw my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Doughty assisting with the activity. She immediately welcomed my girls with her sweet personality. I had to introduce myself, but then she lit up and grinned from ear to ear. She was SO excited to see me, and of course had to know what I did with my life after the 5th grade.
I can say, with pride, that I was the teacher's pet in 5th grade. I know none of you find that hard to believe. She is the reason that I became a teacher! She was my inspiration all those years ago. I wanted to inspire students, just like she inspired me, and connect with students on a personal level, just like she did. She made her students a priority, and always had time for them. She treated us with love, kindness and respect. She also instilled in me a love for art...another thing that I always did with my own students.
